Where First Steps are Taken for Children with MOTOR Delays

Embracing Technology and Innovation for Mobility

Children learn to move and move to learn. Your child’s mobility is key to learning, developing social ability and their sense of self. Using the principles of motor learning, UCP physical therapists will tap your child’s motivation to move, leading to changes in their neural circuitry that positively impact skill development. Mobility training uses real-life and play-based activities that capitalize on your child’s motivation. To support children as they learn new skills, our therapy program was designed using current best evidence therapeutic approaches and cutting-edge technology for children with motor disorders. UCP’s ZeroG Balance and Gait System and the Levity are the only ones located in the Southwest for children.

Mobility Training: 6 months to 3 years old

Our team will help your child have “on-time” opportunities to be upright and moving to explore their world. We will help your child achieve important motor skills such as crawling, standing and first steps. Technology such as adapted ride on cars and other mobility devices can help fill the gap when motor skills are delayed. Our team will help with securing equipment such as standers to maintain healthy muscles and bones.

Mobility Training: 3 years old and older

Important gross motor skills are walking, running and climbing. Mobility Training can help an older child participate in sports and other physical activities. Mobility technology such as our robot assisted gait training can give opportunities to practice the skills your child needs. We will also help you with getting adapted equipment to keep your child moving, playing with friends, and participating in the activities they love at home and in the community.
