Max’s Journey: Overcoming Challenges with Strength and Progress

A Story of Resilience and Hope in the Face of Cerebral Palsy

Our son, Max, was born in April 2016 after a normal and healthy pregnancy. However, at around 3-4 months old, we noticed certain differences in Max’s development, such as favoring one hand over the other and weakness on his right side. Concerned, we consulted his pediatrician, who recommended an MRI. The results revealed that Max had experienced an ischemic stroke on the left side of his brain during the second trimester of pregnancy. This stroke impacted the left hemisphere, which controls the right side of the body and language functions.

Following the stroke, Max was diagnosed with right spastic hemiplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. Uncertain of what to expect, we began early intervention services with an initially assigned provider. However, after a few months, we decided to switch to UCP (United Cerebral Palsy) based on our instincts, and it turned out to be the best decision for Max. Since the switch, he has made incredible progress and exceeded our expectations.

Max is actively involved in physical, occupational, and speech therapy at UCP. Through his dedication and hard work, he has achieved remarkable milestones. We are immensely grateful for the exceptional team at UCP, consisting of therapists who have taken the time to understand Max’s unique needs and support him in reaching his goals. They have become an integral part of his journey.

Max’s strength and resilience continue to inspire us as his parents. He has surpassed our wildest dreams, and his progress has given us newfound strength.
